Our Favorite Phobias
This little project grew out of a journey to Colorado from Maryland. I noticed how frightened I was by the wide open spaces of Kansas (and similar states) and could not remember the name for the phobia (it’s agoraphobia). When I researched the name of the phobia I found an amazingly long list of other phobias, some quite unconventional. Calling this issue “our favorite phobias” is not me displaying my split personality disorder- it’s my astonishment at what humans in general can be afraid of. Not that I’m in the clear by any stretch, I probably gained a few phobias just by glancing at the list. I found it interesting to see that “counterphobia” (The preference by a phobic for fearful situations) is cited. Maybe we need some phobias to keep ourselves occupied.
